Matt Connell has one of the more decorated names in Central Otago wine, and he's joining us at Mountain Club for an evening tasting through the range.
Matt and his wife Beth started the label in 2016 out of Cromwell, after decades between them in the industry: Matt with a postgrad in viticulture and oenology and stints alongside leading winemakers overseas, Beth with a background in horticulture management and years inside winery operations. Their approach is deliberately small: work with specific growers and sites, and only release a wine when it's genuinely ready.
It's paid off. Their Rendition Pinot Noir took Champion Wine of Show at the New Zealand International Wine Show, and Matt was named Winemaker of Show in 2020.
We'll be tasting across the range that the Pinot Noir the label is known for, alongside their Chablis-leaning Chardonnay, with Matt talking through the sites, the seasons and why these wines end up the way they do.
