An opportunity to meet the teams and dogs behind avalanche search and rescue in Aotearoa.

Search and Rescue Dogs Avalanche (SARDA) is the official volunteer organisation providing avalanche dog teams across alpine environments throughout New Zealand. This evening session offers insight into the role SARDA plays in alpine safety, covering who they are, how they operate, and what it takes to train and deploy these highly skilled dogs.

Expect an engaging, behind the scenes look at real search and rescue work, alongside the chance to meet the dogs and handlers in person. Ask questions, hear stories from the field, and get a closer understanding of the bond and training that makes these teams so effective.

Want to take it further? In two weeks on Thursday 4th June, SARDA will be on the snow at Coronet Peak, showcasing live search drills, followed by an optional ski tour for those with the right gear (conditions dependent). More information on this on our webiste and details will be shared at the presentation.

SARDA is a volunteer-led organisation, with donations supporting training, operations, and ongoing capability in the field. Operational teams are based at major ski areas and alpine regions across the country. Endorsed by NZ Police, the Mountain Safety Council, and SAANZ, the organisation is made up of experienced alpine professionals, many of whom are qualified ski patrollers and guides, who are deeply connected to the snow industry and the work they do.
